Appeal to Fear
This ad features a young business woman walking out of what is assumed to be her
place of employment, and is seen coughing and sneezing into her arm as she walks
down the street, obviously in a hurry to go where-ever she is headed.
The camera flashes to a monster (who looks as if he could have been in the movie
Where the Wild Things Are) on the sidewalk behind her. The monster begins to
chase her, and she begins to run until she turns down a dark, empty
alley.
The woman turns to look back at the monster as he comes running around
the corner to catch her, and she pulls out her Zicam just in the knick of time.
The monster is repelled backward down the alley and into the street where he
is promptly run over by a large delivery truck with the Zicam logo painted
across the side.
This advertisement is an Appeal to fear because it implies that the woman
would have been caught by the monster that was chasing her.
